IEC and NEMA Motors

IEC vs. NEMA Motors  A large percentage of our customers produce their machinery for both the North American domestic market as well as for the various export markets of Europe, Asia, and South America. This often causes a design issue as power sources are different from market to market. Different motors should be specified to optimize the design, which then alters the gearboxes used with them. Most of our gear products have a solution for that complexity. Here is an example of one of those gearbox products when it came to IEC vs. NEMA motors. [...]

Customers often call saying they need a gearbox but tell us the application is secret. It's understandable that privacy can be a concern. But it's equally important that your supplier really knows what is going on. A customer of ours approached us asking for a spiral bevel gearbox that was to be used in a high-temperature environment. They gave us no other information other than the torque required, that all shafts would be mounted horizontal, the speed would be under 100 rpm, and that it had to operate in a high temp environment of 180 [...]

Feeling The Pressure?

There are a lot of industrial applications for gear products in harsh environments with not a lot of sources for them. Some of those gearbox applications require operating underwater. I’d say that’s pretty harsh. But it’s something we’ve been able to offer in a number of instances. A customer recently approached us with an engineering request for a gearbox to be used in a wastewater treatment plant. We had done other applications for this customer, but this gearbox had to be able to operate underwater. They were designing an agitation system, which in this [...]

Spline Shaft Gearboxes Synchronize Motion

By |2025-11-12T20:42:41+00:00October 20th, 2018|Application Examples|

There are a lot of applications where timing the rotation of two elements is required and many of these have one or more of the elements that must physically move position. Examples are coating lines where applicator gap control is necessary, packaging lines where package heights vary, roll formers or die cutters where material thicknesses vary, and machines that require an element to retract for cleaning or set up, among others. We had a customer that recently approached us with such an application. He wanted to drive two rollers with a single drive. One was [...]
