DieQua Attends PTRA Conference
The beautiful Hotel del Coronado, in San Diego, was the site of the 40th annual PTRA conference from May 20-23, 2012. Diequa’s Director of Sales and Marketing, Chris Popp and Outside Sales Manager, Mary Delafeld attended the event along with several of their sales partners who are members of the organization.
The PTRA, or Power-Motion Technology Representatives Association, is a not-for-profit group of professional outsourced field sales agencies and the manufacturers supporting them in the power transmission and motion control industries.
The goals of the organization are to optimize the value of independent sales representatives, increase the value of the rep/principal relationship, safeguard the integrity of the independent manufacturer’s rep profession and to enhance the professionalism of its members.
The predominate themes of the presentations during this year’s educational sessions were the use of mobile technology and the sharing of information regarding CRM activities and data base management. Using tablets to access and store sales tools available from the manufacturers and sales activity data transfer from the representative back to the principal were discussed in depth.
With the iPad and other tablets becoming required hardware, sessions focused on optimizing this tool were extremely popular and informative. The sessions covering the reporting of sales activity accentuated many issues that are still evolving. These included the disconnect between rep and principal activity reporting expectations, along with the technology challenges required to efficiently transfer sales call and project reports.
Another highlight of the conference was the event ending dinner held in the hold of the USS Midway, the longest serving Navy aircraft carrier of the 20th century, which is now a museum. The imagery of the US strength in technology and manufacturing was not lost on anyone who was present for this grand spectacle.
The strength and professionalism of the PTRA, as well as the relevance of their conference education seminars and networking opportunities, is a prime reason that Diequa is a member and why they encourage their sales partners to become members as well.
Diequa partner agencies and personnel represented at the conference included, Mike Dietz of JMC Industrial (MN, IA), Dale Jackson of DJ Reps (CA, AZ, NV), Owen McCarron of OEM Industrial (NJ, E. PA), Dan Rahfaldt of Xsell Products (WI), and Devin Ware of Ware Industrial (NC, SC, VA).
